La Parada de los "Tres Reyes Magos" has been a New York tradition since 1997. More than 150,000 people attend this annual celebration on the 1st Sunday of each January. The Parade not only maintains Latin culture & traditions it also distributes over 3,000 toys to participating children.
The parade is based on the biblical story of the journey of three wise kings: Melchor, Balthazar & Gaspar who traveled from Africa, The Middle East & The Orient (respectively) to give gifts to the Messiah. The Epiphany is a holiday celebrated in many Latin American countries where children & adults exchange gifts.
