“Decipio Ludis” is a free multimedia event representing the work of over 20 local artists. The program contains a wide variety of performances and visual art pieces ranging from theater and dance to photography and sculpture. “Decipio Ludis” is an exploration of the conscious and subconscious games we play throughout our lives. This will be the Alternative Arts Association’s fifth major production. “Decipio Ludis” will premier on Saturday January 10th at the Brecht Forum, located at 451 West St. between Bank and Bethune. On Saturday January 17th, there will be an encore performance at the Hell Gate Social Club located at 12-21 Astoria Blvd, where our works will be on display through February 2009. A free shuttle service will be provided from the Astoria Blvd stop on the N/W train to Hell Gate Social Club on the 17th.

 

Founded in 2006, the Alternative Arts Association is a diverse arts collective dedicated to nurturing the rich artistic and cultural fabric of Queens, NY. The Association is also a registered New York State charity. More than 50 artists have come together to collaborate on multimedia exhibitions in a gallery setting. A guiding principle of the organization is to provide material and organizational support to young artists. To further this principle, the Association devotes a large portion of its budget towards directly funding artists and frequently hosts free workshops for artists to collaborate on their works.

 

For those looking to escape the mundane and derivative atmosphere of the contemporary New York art scene, “Decipio Ludis” will remind the viewer that art is supposed to deliver more than commercial navel gazing and pointless regurgitations. Those attending will enjoy an evening of innovative art, excellent company and an original artistic experience. In addition, every dollar spent will help support local artists and the greater artistic community.
