Tricky with the Floacist (Event Over)

Tricky has always sat awkwardly between his collaborators in Massive Attack and fellow trip-hop progenitors Portishead. His early records built an aesthetic around his harsh, raspy voice, relying on dissonant, syncopated beats and dark, often sardonic lyrics to complement the unearthly siren call of singer Martina Topley-Bird. Since 1999's Juxtapose, Tricky's sound has more openly embraced pop from a range of genres. Despite being his first in five years, his latest record, Knowle West Boy, is no exception, combining old-school trip-hop, rock, hip-hop, and dancehall.
