Yoko Furusho

- FICTIONAL -

“Fake is there, inside our weakness.

Truth is there, where we’re facing towards.”

10/15 – 11/22, 2009

Opening Reception: Thursday, October 15th, 6pm – 8pm

Destination Art Space, a gallery placed within an upscale boutique now merging fashion and art, is proud to announce our second solo exhibition by a New York based illustrator/artist, Yoko Furusho.

“Sometimes, people don’t want to see anything when they feel sad. Sometimes, people feel relieved when they do no to face facts. Is my imagination truth, if I stop seeing anything in the reality? Is that real happiness that I feel so relived in there?”

For this exhibition, the gallery space will become an imaginary world where people can escape from the real life. Furusho will fill the space with dreaming girls, flying monsters, twinkling stars, and fluffy mushrooms that she refers to as the characters in her “fictional stories.” Each of Furusho’s pieces represent a chapter in an story constructed from her vivid imagination, which blends the boundary between real and imaginary.

Artist Biography: YOKO FURUSHO is a Japanese artist/illustrator based in New York. She was born in Tokyo and moved to New York to study illustration at the School of Visual Arts. After her graduation in 2008, she started her career as a professional illustrator/artist. She likes to draw details, textures and patterns with ink and acrylics, and often uses fashion as her inspiration. She is addicted to collecting fashion magazines and likes to look at a lot of dresses and cute textiles. Now she is working as an illustrator for various magazines and newspapers. Recently, Furusho had her first solo-show, “EXHALE” in New York at destination Art Space in September 2008. Her work has also been shown at several other shows around the world.
