Going.com IS a Democracy + -
Wait a minute, though...
Maybe going.com, Fred, and I are the same person!!!
OH NOES!!!!
Or maybe it's a conspiracy...
Or maybe people actually believe in the free flow of ideas and dialogue, you know, like in a democracy.

-- First Amendment to the United States Constitution
* I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty, than those attending too small a degree of it.

* After all, if freedom of speech means anything, it means a willingness to stand and let people say things with which we disagree, and which do weary us considerably.
--Zechariah Chafee; in Chafee (1920). Freedom of Speech, p. 366, Harcourt, Brace and Howe.
* It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them.
--Mark Twain Following the Equator
* We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy
* The First Amendment is often inconvenient. But that is besides the point. Inconvenience does not absolve the government of its obligation to tolerate speech.
--Justice Anthony Kennedy
* "If freedom of speech means anything at all, it is the freedom to say things that people do not want to hear"
--George Orwell
* "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
--Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing as S. G. Tallentyre in 1906 (commonly attributed to Voltaire, of whom Hall wrote a biography).
* "...if any opinion is compelled to silence, that opinion may, for aught we can certainly know, be true. To deny this is to assume our own infallibility."
--John Stuart Mill, On Liberty (1859)
* "In a free state, tongues too should be free."

Censorship in Politics + -

Angry mod said:
> There's only truth
That sounds like something a fundamentalist would say, implying that the truth is absolute. Not recognizing the perspective of others smacks of an absence of objectivity.

We were supposed to arrive at the dollar per dollar account of the spending in Iraq. And also start holding people accountable for actions and spending. Somehow all that disappeared in the war of words politicians play.
That is truth. Numbers and actions. Not words and perceptions.
How hard someone waves the flag over my head telling me not to question the government.
That's truthiness, which a fundamentalist loves to use in its manipulative, extremist rhetoric.

NOW this last post was very generic and not directed at anyone. Yet this person thought it should be deleted.
What was the reason for it???

Also, I find it disrespectful that you post here not using your real identity. Take notice of the group charter.

Modern fascism in the media + -
1) First, free speech is determined "unappropiate" by a government authority by who knows what means.
2) Then ownership rights are used to circumvent the First Amendment.
This is how the FCC and Corporate Media work together to suppress free speech.

That law was struck down by the Republican Congress and Bush.
Now major media conglomerates are eating up independent journalists and pushing their own views or just firing anyone who disagrees.
Simple yet effective.

I wrote the rules up at the request of a couple of people.
A couple people decide what 1337 people will post. Yeah that's great there.
Jaz asked for this and he just pointed out that it was already there.
So let me guess, Paul was one of those people who 'helped' with these rules huh??
:-|
I know that you don't like me deleting any posts, you think it is a power trip and censorship and all that (I saw your message in your little soapbox group) but it's not.
The threads didn't need to be deleted, you could've just told people not to post anymore in there. Did Paul tell you to delete them? Or was it your own inability to defend your argument that made you do it?
This has actually been a good week around here. Thoughts haven't been killed. Without the group being hijacked by one or two people for their off topic rants
People have other threads they can create and use. No one is or ever was tying their hands. Sure is quiet though, just like a curfew imposed by force.
Thank you your highness...

I know right??? It's like life or death for them to have their view of "peace and quiet".
It's hilarious because they see my every post as a threat of some sort. Like if they are not able to think for themselves and post what they like. They have to stick to a certain style or they feel lost, confused, and threatened.
The power-tripping admin deleted every single post of mine on that thread.
Whining must've been at all time high too.....teeeeheheheee.
The fact you see that by itself puts you a notch higher in maturity.
They all got off their lawn chairs and came to beat me with their canes...LOLOLOL

I think people who take whatever anyone else posts seriously have no life..
I saw that they deleted all your posts... I dont understand why everyone is fighting... if you dont like whatever someone is posting just ignore it... that's what I do.. the hell is wrong w/ everyone?
I can understand that miscommunication happens and people might take a comment or two the wrong way... but the power trip that everyone is on... oh! this is not the way its supposed to be, delete, delete, delete..
it is the childishness to the extreme.

I'll put the rules in the group's description when I do as someone suggested. Thanks again!
LOL, I just finished telling her about deleting whole threads and there she goes again blowing away everyone's opinions like nothing.
I have no clue how going.com admins picked her. I can think of several other people more level-headed and impartial. In fact I wish YOU had been an admin Jas.
