Editors' Take

As always, Cheeky pushes the boundaries of city nightlife with no cover and cheap-ass drinks. Any of these names ring a bell? Le Tigre, Mobius Band, Pilobolus are just the tip of this musical iceberg.

MOBIUS BAND Live... J.D. of LE TIGRE... Sune of THE RAVEONETTES
special performance by Pilobolus. Hosted by L Magazine
Hiro Ballroom - Thursday July 19 - NO COVER WITH RSVP!!

L Magazine are joining us this week for a party featuring a live show from the excellent Mobius Band, who according to Flavorpill are "the latest proof point of the symbiotic relationship between electronic music and rock." (we agree).

J.D. of Le Tigre will be DJing, plus Sune of The Raveonettes will also be spending some time behind the decks.

L Magazine are bringing with them Pilobolus for a special performance... we don't want to tell you any more just in case we spoil the surprise...

Drinks Specials:
Two-4-One Vodka drinks 10pm-11pm.
$8 Tiger-Beer-and-Whisky-Chaser-Combo, and $4 Sparks all night.

NO COVER ON GUEST LIST IF YOU RSVP
(Sign-up is free and simple, but only one sign-up per person - no plus ones!!)
Say you are on the Cheeky list when you arrive at the door.

Cheeky Bastard will keep you informed of future free events

    From the nightlife section:

With a queue that stretches around to Ninth Ave and world famous DJs cueing turn-tables on the stage, the venue which shares a stairway with the Japanese restaurant Matsuri is a mélange of all of nightlife's angles--where the bass is low enough for you to shake and the treble is oriented for you to hear the melodies.
In their mixes, resident DJ Alex English and Peter Makebish give the right amount of individualized, lifted-from-the-cue-ball-game "English", spinning crates of records like either pool sticks or karate Bos, making Cheeky Bastard's audience an arabesque between uptown striped-or-solid suits and downtown, curly-q'ed cuties.
With a cornered market in its corner pockets, your hosts Dimitry, Dagny & May, Ruben, Noel and Alejandro & Tom from GBH invite you to their tables to share their GHB-free bottles and mixers. Hiro is a full table service and nurse-shot venue aimed at keeping you dancing on table-tops and bouncing around like in a room bounded by rubber.
July 19 features Mobius Band, the trio who join more than a pool-table rectangle and twist more than just on the surface; and JD of Le Tigre mashing-up Madonna's 'Vogue' with her own 'Hot Topic'. While Cheeky Bastard is always a dance party, tonight they take that charge one step further: by playing host to the after party for Pilobolus, the modern dance company which, through elements "of physical interaction between the bodies of the performers, of physical interaction between the bodies of the performers, and exaggerations or contortions of the human form (or other anthropomorphic forms)", creates a Mobius Band of its performers. Pilobolus is performing through August 11 at The Joyce Theater, tonight audience members and L Magazine readers are invited for a second show of sorts, full of surprise performances from cast members and, speculatively, some ticket giveaways.
On the bill for July 26's ball is the BPM Anniversary party, which features DJ sets from Devlin & Darko (Spank Rock) and a live, Suduko-like boggling performance from Kudu.
Stick around after the show, when the dance floor becomes a bumper pool of Snooker-inspired game and chalk-pale snogging hipsters looking to get felt and sink the 8-ball.
Once you have made it to the front of the line, that is your cue to mention that you are on the comp'ed list; before that, drop a line to rsvp@gbh.tv.
